To produce the 7 nm chip, the team employed a new type of lithography in the manufacturing process, Extreme Ultraviolet, or EUV, which delivers huge improvements over today’s mainstream optical lithography.
Lithography in computers
Did you know?
WebLithography is a crucial step in the chipmaking process, because it determines just how small the transistors on a chip can be. During this stage, the chip wafer is inserted into a lithography machine (that's us!) where it's exposed to deep ultraviolet (DUV) or extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light. Lithography uses simple chemical processes to create an image. For instance, the positive part of an image is a water-repelling ("hydrophobic") substance, while the negative image would be water-retaining ("hydrophilic"). Thus, when the plate is introduced to a compatible printing ink and water mixture, the ink will adhere to the positive image and the water will clean the negative image. Thi…
Webdiscussion above. Typical lithography optics are demagnifying and we are generally interested in the resolution on the image side (unlike microscopy systems), thus the NA of interest is the image side-NA rather than the acceptance NA. The two, however, are simply related by the magnification. For example, a so called 4 lithography system, Web29 feb. 2024 · ASML is, in turn, one of hundreds of firms that supply the chipmakers themselves. WebLithography is a planographic printmaking process in which a design is drawn onto a flat stone (or prepared metal plate, usually zinc or aluminum) and affixed by means of a chemical reaction. First, the design for the lithograph is drawn directly onto a polished slab of limestone using an oil-based lithographic crayon or ink. WebLithography is a word with two distinct definitions. If you Google "lithography", 7 of the first 10 hits will refer you to the art world and a process invented by Aloys Senefelder in 1788 (1).
